In the late 70s'/early 80s' Dave Stansfield was working as a Lecturer at Keighley College running a multi-ethnic music workshop for the unemployed and physically and mentally handicapped young adults.
One day he borrowed the college's 4 track Tascam, hired a Roland synthesiser, a Roland drum machine, echo and guitar synthesiser. He roped in ex-Moonkyte bass player Trevor Craven and one afternoon they cut five tracks which were spoken word and music. Dave Stansfield wrote all the songs and produced them as best he could at the time. Gone were the likes of Moonkyte's 'Happy Minstrel' and 'Bridge Song'. These tracks were a different proposition altogether
Since the breakup of Moonkyte Stansfield had developed a social conscience. He worked with Chilean refugees, at Oxfam, as a front line Community Worker and Lecturer in Community Education. He'd got a fine Honours degree in Peace Studies and got involved in causes and activities that generated interest from MI5.
Dave has now released these songs . The titles are 'I Want To Be.... , 'Strange Radio', 'Stranger In a Strange Land', 'When The Tanks Roll Over Bradford' and 'Just Because..Or A Cause At All'.
He's called the project (or band name) I VIGILI DEL FUOCO and the title of the mini-album is 'WHERE'S THE FIRE? - THE POMPINO TAPES'. It's on his new label 'Mani Puliti (Clean Hands) Music' and is a strictly limited, numbered, edition released on a vinyl style CD-R. Also included are notes, illustrations and lyric sheet. Watch out for the release date.
